National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The Framework was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and launched on 29 September 2015.
This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations and broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD to identify the parameters for ranking universities and institutions.
NIRF Ranking Parameters
The parameters broadly cover the following key areas:
- Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR)
- Research and Professional Practices (RP)
- Graduation Outcomes (GO)
- Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)
- Perception (PR)
India Rankings Information
India Rankings – 2016 based on this framework were released on 4th April 2016.
For India Rankings – 2017, the main ranking parameters remain the same. However, there were significant changes in a few sub-parameters. Additionally, every large institution was given a common overall rank as well as discipline-specific ranks, wherever applicable.
